The Editor's Address (not personal)

Hi guys, I'm KungFuDuet, and thanks if you have started reading our Cannon Fodder. In the Year of the Dragon, the Wiki Team had decided to start bringing you a monthly newsletter. We are going to introduce some new maps, and tips for them, and interviews with staff and top Risk players, and stories, maybe a joke here and there, all on this newsletter, so keep an eye on this! This time, we have brought you a worded interview with Bado, and some tips from Incandenza for the new Risk players, and some other miscellaneous things about Major Command Risk. Please enjoy the read, and we would love some feedback so just pop them into my inbox or go to The Official Feedback Thread.

The Boss of Major Command Risk

by KungFuDuet

Gosh, without HIM this place won't even exist. This guy is probably the most important being in the Universe (of Major Command Risk). The Creator of all, the King himself, the half-mortal, half-undead Viking warrior... it is - Badorties BadoIcon.jpg!

So this is an exclusive interview with the man that is so AWESOME, not even those seven letters are enough to describe him.

His WILD SIDE - Who he is outside of Major Command

I'm Jess Bachman. Google it. Otherwise known as Jess Bachman, Bado is a married man with three children. He is the Creative Director of Design Startup, the guy who makes cool posters, and best of all - he plays video games.

The all important idea - What inspired him to start Major Command

Me: What was it that inspired you to start MC? Bado: I was at another Risk site and couldn't get any problems fixed, I was tired of wasting my time, and so decided to start my own.

The Obstacles - The Start of the Journey

Me: Was it difficult to start off? Bado: Well... It wasn't difficult, it just took some time. I got a few people on board to help of course. I had to hire a developer, so it took some time to find the right one.

The Glory - Biggest Achievements Along the Way

Me: What was your biggest achievement within Major Command Risk, apart from the fact that you created it? Bado: Well, it was more like hundreds of smaller achievements. Taking a full turn was a big achievement, the first actual Risk player was an achievement. The first win, the first forum comment, and many many other milestones were achievements.

Here is the First Win Ever in Major Command Risk History.

The Failure - I thought he hasn't got any

Me: Anything that you wish could have been done better in nearly two years that had passed? Bado: Well, I had put a lot of focus on community features before there was a community when I should have focused on core game stability before any community features.

Satisfaction - Is it :) or :(

Me: How would you rate your creation's development since the Alpha out of 100% ? Bado: Well, it's hard to rate it like that. I'm quite proud of it, though - it's much more than any of us imagined it would be.

Banana Peel - Funny and Slippery

Me: Any funny things that happened while developing? Bado: lol, there were probably a lot of funny things... though I can't say I remember them. I know we used to get together for weekly chats during the initial development, and somehow we always ended up talking about dicks. Me: :D haha

Last Words - Before the New Year

Me: Any Confession that you wanna make in front of MC, before the new year? Bado: I confess that we need to get maps out quicker. We have lots of maps waiting to be released.

Want to say a word of praise or thanks to Bado in this new year? Head to Bado's profile page and leave a comment! Who do you want to know more about next? Head to my profile page and send me a note with the person's player name.

Tips Inc.

by Incandenza To err is human, to learn divine" - Five tips and tricks for the new Risk players.

To all our new Risk players, I extend a hearty Welcome. Every Risk player that joins this site brings something new to the table. However, as in any new experience, there are a few common troubles and traps that a new Risk player can get themselves into. So to help all of you on your road to world domination, here are five simple tips to get you past the awkward "n00b" stage.

1. Read the Wiki

We have a whole host of dedicated volunteers who help write and update our Wiki. There you can find everything from new Risk player strategies, to detailed information about the interface, to a list of medals and ranks, and a whole lot more.

2. Choose your games wisely

We have a lot of different game types here at Major Command Risk, and some of them are quite complex, enough so that a new player has almost no chance of winning against a longtime veteran. Don't despair, you'll become a longtime veteran yourself soon enough, but while you're learning the gameplay and the interface, you'll be best served by sticking to games with simple settings (standard games with limited reinforcement options) with Risk players roughly of your same rank. Then once you're familiar with the game and comfortable with the strategy, you can go out and try and turn the tables on the veterans.

3. Stay off Classic Massive

Being good at this game often requires picking the best of a wide variety of strategies. And while you're learning how to play, too many potential moves can lead to confusion and poor play. Classic Massive is a great map, but with so many regions it can be overwhelming for a new Risk player. Better to stick to medium or small maps like Classic Evolved, Classic Mini, or one of our variety of regional maps.

4. Know your teammate(s)

Team games are a great deal of fun. However, the wrong teammate can turn an entertaining game into a nightmare. Teaming up with friends, whether from real life or friends made here at Major Command Risk, will always give you a better chance to have a good time (and a better chance to win) than teaming up with a random person and hoping for the best.

5. Make some new friends

While our user base is still relatively small, we have several active forums, where you can discuss anything from Major Command Risk strategy to the last movie you saw. Today you might be talking with someone about baseball, tomorrow you might be teaming up with that same person and kicking some butt. We also have an entire forum dedicated to players introducing themselves. Head over to introduce yourself now - Click Here!

If you have more questions, we have a constantly growing FAQ, or you can drop me a note at Incandenza's profile page with a specific question.

TwelveDomainsMapAd.jpg

You will find yourself among the warlords of the twelve kingdoms, on a strange land with Dragons as one of its inhabitants. You know that you must unite the twelve tribes under yourself, but first you must expand your influence within your kingdom. Will you be able to rise above the others? But beware, behind your kingdom is a Dragon, a Dragon so deadly, and ready to be called up by one that is worthy. Can you reach the Draig Tower before anyone and hold it, so that the Dragon will acknowledge your power and lend you its aid? Kings will fall, armies will turn oblivious, and Dragons will strike. Will it be you, or them, that gains the favor of the Element Bending Creatures?

Major Command's Justice Twins

by Orbotron "A Message from the MCCIC Leader himself."

At Major Command Risk, we have two rules. These should be enough for 95% of you.

  1. Do not make a second account.
  2. Do not be "that guy".

If you don’t know what "that guy" is, he is the person who ruins the fun and experience for others by being rude, abusive, overly annoying or other forms of douchebaggery. Competitive banter in the game chat is fun, but "that guy" will take it too far, throwing in racial or derogatory comments. Moving up the Scoreboard is everyone's goal, but "that guy" will systematically try to work the angles and grey area of fair play. Lively forums are fun, but "that guy" often acts like an internet tough-guy and adds zero value to the discussion. Nobody likes "that guy".

We also run a one warning policy. If you are being "that guy", we will let you know, and request you to stop. If you continue to be "that guy", you will receive a permanent site-wide ban. If you find yourself banned, you can appeal the decision after a specified amount of time by emailing [email protected]

Particularly egregious offenders will get the ban hammer without warning.
